against creating problems for government forces. Accident kills five BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. Five persons were killed and at least five others injured early today in a fiery chain reaction accident involving four tractor trailer trucks, an automobile and a passenger van, police said. Port Wentworth police officer Richard McNeely said four of the dead were in the van, which had been parked on the side of a bridge overpass along Interstate 95 at Georgia 21 just north of here. The fifth fatality was one of the truck drivers, he said. Officers said all five bodies were severely burned in the explosion and fire that followed the crash and identities could not immediately be determined. He said the fatalities included three men, a woman and a small child. McNeely said the accident occurred when a southbound flatbed truck slowed at the bridge because of smoke and fog, was struck from behind by a second truck, followed by the third truck, the passenger car and the fourth truck. It was believed that the fuel tank of the fourth truck exploded, touching off fires in two of the other trucks and the van. McNeely said early morning fog combined with smoke from a trash fire apparently caused the first truck to slow at the bridge. He said the dead trucker was in the third tractor trailer that became involved in the accident. Spokesmen at two hospitals in nearby Savannah said they were treating a total of five persons. Their conditions were not available.
