"The agreement between President of the Mine Workers' Union of America, and the mine operators aj to the appointment of a commision to arbitrate their differences, means the end of one of the most notable strikes in history.

One of the first things that strikes, the most casual reader is the part played in the settlement by President Roosevelt, There is no doubt that a continuance 01 the strike would have worked greatly against the republican party and hence the alarm which has filled the leaders for some time. But President Roosevelt hopes 'to turn any harm that might have been done into campaign thunder by bringing about the settlement of the strike. It is exceedingly well' for the that the strike is at an end, that the pitiless eyes of an awful winter no longer glare devouringly upon the poor of. the great cities. Anthracite coal has advanced 370 per cent in price since the strike te.

Much success has greeted Chas Chase's adaptation of Marie Corelli's famous novel, "Wormwood, or The Absinthe Drinkers of Paris," which will he presented at the opera house on Oct 29. It is everywhere described as a wonderful production, finely staged and magnificently acted.

Concerning the drama, Marie Correlli, writing from Lake Leman, Switzerland, says, wood' is a true phase of modern life in Parisone scene out of the countless tragedies that take place every day and everywhere in these our present times. There is no necessity to invent fables nowadays -the fictionist need never tortue his train for storiee, either of adventure or spectral horror. Life itself is 80 amazing, swift, varied, terrible, and withal, so wildly inconsistent and changetul that all I bave had to do for plot and character in 'Wormwood' has been ta.closely and patiently observe men and women as they are, not as they seem, in Paris, and then ke pen in hand and write the Truth." Certain it is that of all her portlar novels "Wormwood" is by far. the most intensely dramatic, and the adapter is said, out. of his material, to have constructed a play which has few equals on the atage When you have no appetite, do not relish your food and feel dull after eating you may know that you need a dose of Ohamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets.

Mrs Duckett was buried beside her husband, Thomas Duckett. The Eclipse of the Moon. Did you see the eclipse of the moon last night? It was visible all over the United States.

The eclipse of the moon is caused by the earth getting between that body and the sun. The moon does not shine by its own light. It is visible only when illumined by the son. The duration of the eclipse, of course, depends on the diameter of the shadow to be traversed. This is a veritable factor, and is controlled by two things --the distance of the from the earth and the distance sun the moon.

As the sun is very much bigger than the earth, the shadow of the latter grows more and more slender on the off side of the earth, and dwindles away to a point. The rapidity of the taper changes with the sun's distance, and the particular point in the cone of dark? Lies8 where the moon plunges through is governed the moon's own distance from us at that hour. bull another item in the calculation is the path taken by the moon through the shadow. If this lies right through the center of the shadow, of course the eclipse will Jast longer than if it keeps close to one edge. 'The con of darkness would be not far from six thousand miles in diameter, and the moon is two thousand miles wide.

Sometimes the mron followsa route which immerses only a part of that body in the shadow. Such an eclipse is' called "partial." The Universal Entertainer.
