Dear Marylou: I am one of a group of science fiction and fantasy fans searching for appropriate costumes for the New York Renaissance Festival. We are looking for Robin HoodRenaissanceMedieval style patterns and cannot seem to find them. We'd prefer to make our own costumes rather than to rent them.

We'll even tackle the armor and chain mail. Does anyone make such patterns? H.K.W., New York, N.Y. Dear H.K.W.: Costume guides for clothing worn during Queen Elizabeth's reign (1558-1603) are available by writing to the Living History Centre, Box Novate, Calif. 94947. The booklets, entitled "Renaissance Pleasure Faire Costume Guide for Faire Folk," are free if you send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Information includes such tidbits as "purple was reserved for Queen Elizabeth only" and "the rich used padding to puff out their garments "Bombast" for peascod -doublets and "bum rolls" or farthingales for the exaggerated shapes of the ladies' skirts." You might also want to consider buying a book called "Elizabethan Costuming For the Years 1550 to 1580r' by the California Renaissance Pleasure Faire's costuming director, Carolyn Schulty, and co-author Janet Bigglestone. To order, send $6 plus postage to Other Times Productions, 386 Alcatraz, Oakland, Calif. 94618. This book also contains pattern guides. 1985, Los Angeles Times.

Distributed by Los Angeles Times Syndicate (Illustrated By FERNANDO FLORE8I By MARYLOU LUTHER Dear Marylou: Please recommend shoes for my shocking pink taffeta evening gown. It's strapless, sheath-like in fit, and reminds me of something Marilyn Monroe wore in "Some Like It Hot." I wear size 5 AA, and as you might surmise from the shoe size, I'm a petite size 4. D.A., Kansas City, Mo. Dear D.A.: This is the season for color afoot, so why not shock your feet in pink, too? Technically, the suede pumps illustrated here are in a color called eggplant, but the shade looks exactly like shocking pink. If you don to think pink, the same shoes come in red, cobalt (a purplish blue), henna and black.

Both the red and the cobalt would work with your pink dress. Because this is also the season of twinkling toes, you might want to consider adding jeweled clips at the vamp of each shoe. Both the shoes at $88 and the clips, which range in price from $8 to $16, are available in the current catalogue published by Giordano's, 118 First New York, N.Y. 10021. This style, called Glenda, is available in sizes 4 6 Vi and Vz-6 Vi AA.

Other styles from these specialists in shoes for petite women are offered in sizes 3 to 6V4. Dear Marylou: I am enclosing a rough sketch of a muumuu 1 saw recently. I asked the woman who was wearing it where she purchases it, and she said it was from small shop in Hawaii, but she could not remember the name. I was impressed with the way it moved so gracefully as she walked. As you can see from my drawing the neckline seemed to be the same both front and back.

A series of pleats or gathers from the bottom of the front and back, gave the dress its flow. Can you track it down? A pattern would be acceptable. F.B., Philadelphia, Pa. Dear F.B.: Three patterns from Hawaii's Pattern People look like reasonable facsimiles of your sketch. They are Pattern Pacif ica styles 1014 and 3200 and Pauloa style 1026.

Before selecting one pattern you might want to order a NSS21HISWUI1 Fashion show Fashion Merchandising students, from left, Valerie Washington of Due West, Vicky Easier of Edgefield, and Grenda Jones and Mary Meadors, both of Greenwood, will participate in a fashion show for office and leisure during the "Communicating The Total You" communications workshop for school office personnel at Piedmont Tech on Friday. Fortified baby cereals can also be used to boost and infant's iron supply. Finally, you can increase your iron intake considerably by simply cooking in cast-iron pans and pots. Some of the iron in the pan is picked up by the food when it's cooked in the iron pan. Anyone who needs additional iron in the diet will see a significant improvement in his iron count by switching to cast-iron utensils for most of their cooking. With a little care and knowledge about what makes a good, nutritious diet, it's perfectly possible to eat as many nutrients, including vitamins and minerals, as you need without resorting to pills and potions.

Good luck and good eating! POLLY DEAR POLLY When a recipe (such as for fruitcake) says to line a pan with aluminum foil, I wrap the foil around the outside, then slip it inside the pan. This is much easier than trying to fit the corners to the inside of the pan. A.F. DEAR POLLY I love the way pillow shams look, but hate putting them on the pillows. Walton of 927 Brooks St. He attended public schools in Greenwood and is em DEAR POLLY Which foods are high in iron? I'd like to increase the iron in my diet, but I'd rather not take pills or supplements. F.C. DEAR F.C Many people, especially women and babies, need additional Iron In their diets, and while it requires some thought, you can Improve your Iron content through diet without resorting to supplements. One of the best sources, of course, is liver.

Eating liver once a week is an excellent way to increase the iron in your diet. Liver sausage also is rich in Iron, but the increased fat and sodium content of liver sausage makes it a less desirable source. Red meats such as beef, pork and lamb are also good sources of iron. But even if you don't like liver and don't care to eat red meat too often, you can increase your iron intake with other foods. Eat plenty of dark green leafy vegetables such as broccoli.

However, spinach is not a good source, since anothei chemical In spinach decreases the body's ability to absorb and use the iron content in spinach. Prunes and prune Juice are very high in iron and a daily glass of prune Juice would be an excellent way to boost your iron content. Egg yolks are another good source and a good way to feed babies and extra iron.
