(Continued The Inden-Joumol, Greenwood. Jun 19775 from pagel) Deaths and funerals Oilier Budget Calvin L. Bridges sharing may be required by law. "Although the revenue sharing budget and general appropriations budget are separate, they are tied under one general heading of county budget," Alewine said. The county budget can't be approved without the revenue sharing budget being approved first.

County Attorney G.P. Callison said this morning he will check on the federal law concerning revenue sharing hearings and should know within a few days if another hearing will be required. "I think the hearing last night was sufficient but I will check to be sure of what federal law says," he said. If a separate hearing is required for revenue sharing, it will be held after a seven-day notice is given and before the budget is given final approval, library board told council in May that the library would be unable to meet minimum standards without additional funds, and would have to buy fewer books, cut hours and curtail some services. The representative did not request a specific amount of money from council, but said they could operate efficiently if they could receive an additional mill revenue.

Also during the public hearing, Mac Leslie questioned whether council should give The Museum money to renovate the Chipley Building and move there. He said the building will eventually be torn down under the Community Development Program. Carter Ribelin, representative from The Museum, said the board of trustees had not accepted the offer from The Self Foundation to move into the Chipley Building because "most of us realize that building can't be used for very many years." In the only other matter of business, council gave first reading to an ordinance granting a franchise to Teleprompter, of Greenwood. "We are now down to the final stages for track removal and the city and county must commit their share of revenue sharing." However, he said all of the money appropriated for track removal may not have to be used. The $15,000 appropriated for fire protection will possibly be used to assist rural fire departments, Alewine said.

Council earlier appropriated money to help start Coronaca Fire Department. "This is one of the least expensive ways to help the entire county get fire protection," Alewine said. "We anticipate seven communities forming a fire department and getting a charter, and set aside this $15,000 to help them get started." During the public hearing, Dr. W.T. Rice of the library board thanked council for appropriating additional funds for the library.

The budget was increased by one-fourth of a mill and now stands at $94,000. "The additional operational funds will allow the library to meet minimum standards and no services will have to be curtailed this year," he said. Representatives from the Correction WOMAN IS 64, NOT 55 Eula Gaskin's age was listed in the May 3 Index-Journal as 55. She called the newspaper office Tuesday to say that she is 64. "I believe in being honest about it," she said.

Alewine said. Third reading will be given next week if the separate hearing is not required by law. Council is considering a $2,623,303 county operations budget and a $542,000 revenue sharing budget.

Councilman Gene Pinson said that because money is appropriated does not mean the money will be spent. Included under revenue sharing appropriations for the proposed budget are $125,000 for public transportation, $120,000 for medical care for the indigent, $262,000 for capital outlay, $15,000 for fire protection and $20,000 for mental retardation. Alewine said earlier this week that the money appropriated for public transportation will be used for the track removal project. "The money from federal and state government is already coming in for track removal," he said. a.m.
