In an effort to collect used coats for children in need, The County Bank and WCRS Radio joined to sponsor the "Coats for Kids" campaign Denise Lollis, marketing officer for The Cflunty. Bank, saidVThe County Bank has always been committed to the Greenwood community. We were founded by the people of Greenwood in 1933, so we feel it's important to give back to the community." Lollis said they hoped to collect 250 coats, and she was pleased by the number of people dropping by.

She said because of the good turnout, they would probably exceed their goal. After the coats are collected, they will be cleaned by Cambridge Professional Dry Cleaners and then sent to the United Way for distribution. Children who are in foster situations, abused homes, or have had their homes destroyed by fire will be the primary recipients of the coats, officials said. Anyone who wishes to donate a 3Vv Rev. Georgia Mae Valentine, 59, of Route 14, Howard Gap died Dec 1997, at Pardee Hospital. Bora in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late George Washington and Sadie Bigby Valentine. She was a member of Covenant Christian fellowship where she served as assistant pastor. Surviving are two sons, Dezerro Benton of Simpsonville and Wesley Jerome Jordon of Ware Shoals; a daughter, Yvonne H. Valentine-Logan of Horse Shoe, N.C; two brothers, George W.

Valentine Jr. of Greenville and Thomas Valentine of Jamaica, N.Y4 five, sisters, Georginna, Stewart of Greenville, Eugenia Luster of San Francisco, Effie Nelson of Tryon, N.C, Carolyn Valentine of HendersonviUe, and Pastor Doris Valentine of Fletcher, N.C; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Star of Bethel Baptist Church in HendersonviUe with Pastor Don Bledsoe officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove AME Church Cemetery in Hodges, S.C The family will receive friends at Robinson-Walker Funeral Service in Ware Shoals from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

5, 1997. 1 Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late John Watkins and Mary Schumpert Foy. He served with the 88th Seabee Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Barnwell First Baptist Church and formerly of Seven Pines Baptist Church of Snelling, where he was a deacon and was active in the church building program. He was a member of the South Carolina Forestry Association, the Ellenton Agriculture Club and Harmony No.

17 Masonic Lodge. He was in the timber business for over 30 years and founded South Carolina Timber. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Harry Lee "Bubba" Foy Jr. of Hampton; three daughters, Lee Early of Bamberg, Suzanne Nicholson of Greenwood and Jane Abbott of Spartanburg; two sisters, Ann Moore of Snelling and Georgia Fields of Barnwell; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m.

today at Barnwell First Baptist Church with the -Revs. Stephen Burnett, Posey Belcher, and Billy Mew officiating. Burial will be in Barnwell County Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Roberts, George Sanders, Wesley Fail, Bruce Hill, Tim Moore Jr. and Roy Fields Jr.

Allie Mae Sanders Wright, of 112 Adams widow of Jessie Wright, died Dec. 6, 1997, at her home. Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Issac Partlaw and Alberta Sanders. She was a member of Long Cane AME Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society. She was a retired cafeteria worker with Abbeville School District.

Surviving are three sons, Eugene Wright of the home, Joseph Wright and Jesse Wright, both of Abbeville; five daughters, Rachel Wright of the home, Elaine Wright of Abbeville, Jeanette Best of Panama City, Janice Cook of Pascagoula, and Jackie Anderson of Elberton, a sister, Sallie Ray ford of Abbeville; 25 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. John Henry Knight GREENWOOD John Henry Knight, 64, of 634 Cobb husband of Margaret Ann Cooley Knight, died Dec. 6, 1997, at Self Memorial Hospital.

Bom in Seneca, he was a son of the late Joe Henry and Etta Whitaker Knight. He was employed by Greenwood Mills and was a member of Ninety Six Church of God. It was natural for him to join the Navy an ancestor was lost at sea while raiding British ships in the late 1790s, and several other family members later served in the Navy. He became an ensign, assigned to the USS Arizona stationed at Pearl Harbor. As luck would have it, Langdell was ashore the morning of Dec.

7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked. Langdell watched from nearby Ford Island as 1,177 of his crew members were killed. An estimated 950 of them were entombed in the sunken ship. She was a Girl Scout leader and a judge for the American Camellia Society and the American Hemerocallis Society. She was a member of Millen United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Arnold P. Mulkey Jr. of Greenwood; a daughter, Angie M. Gay of Millen; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Millen Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Cravey officiating.
