Walker, died Jan. 18, 1996 at the Greenville Memorial Medical Center. Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Alice Hendrix Mann, and a granddaughter of the late pioneer Confederate soldier, Thomas Mann. She was a homemaker and an ordained minister with the Assembly of God. She was twice married, first to the late Rev.

Linton Doyle Staton, who had been pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Greenwood. Surviving are four sons, Benny D. Staton, Bob J. Staton and Jimmy L. Staton, all of Greer, and Danny J.

Staton of Lima, Ohio; a brother, Clarence Mann of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one greatGraveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Graceland Cemetery. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's Irene Glenn PELZER Mrs. Irene Waldrop Gillespie Glenn, 82, formerly of Pelzer, died Jan.

18, 1996 at Oconee Memorial Hospital. She was a former employee of Kendall Mills and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Smith of Piedmont; a son, Ellis Bridges of Pelzer; a stepdaughter, Rachel Pilgrim of Greenville; a stepson, Jerry Gillespie of Greenville; a sister, Jessie Maddox of Ware Shoals; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three -grandchildren. Services were at 3 p.m. Saturday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

The family is at the residence of Joyce Smith, 205 Crawford Street, Piedmont. Inez G. Gillian GREENWOOD Mrs. Inez Gambrell Gillian, 65, of 1211 Highway 246, South, widow of George H. Gillian, died Jan.

20, 1996 at Self Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Albert C. and Minnie Dean Gambrell. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are two sons, Gary Gillian of Waterloo and Keith Gillian of the home; a sister, Patricia Hart of Greenwood; a brother, Albert C.

Gambrell Jr. of Greenwood; and one grandson. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Cemetery with the Rev. E.A.

Dorothy C. Adams SALUDA Mrs. Dorothy Belle Counts Adams, 82, of 307B South Jennings widow of Willie Warren "'Bill" Adams, died Jan. 19, 1996 at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood. Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late G.H.

and Anna Counts. She was a homemaker. Surviving are two sons, Buddy Adams and Terry Adams, both of Saluda; four daughters, Jackie Charles, Bonnie Morelock, Cora Matthews and Deborah Edwards, all of Saluda; 11 grandchildren; and five great -grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at Travis Park Cemetery.

The family is at the home of a daughter, Deborah Edwards, 106 Buffington St. Ramey Funeral Home of Saluda is in charge of arrangements. Marion Boyce Sr. ABBEVILLE Marion Owens Boyce 89, resident of National Health Care, Anderson and formerly of McGowan Abbeville, husband of Janet Taylor Boyce, died Jan. 19, 1996 at the National Health Care.

Born in Cross Hill, he was a son of the late Robert Austin and Bessie Owens Boyce. He was retired resident engineer of the Abbeville County, S.C. Highway Department with 49 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a member of the Abbeville Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the Oscar Hunter Sunday School Class. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Anderson, are two sons, Marion O.

Boyce Jr. of Honea Path and James Austin Boyce of Columbia; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Gay of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville with the Rev.

Rudolph McBride CALHOUN FALLS Rudolph McBride of Route 1, Calhoun Falls, husband of Barbara Hammonds McBride, died Jan. 20, 1996 at his home. He was a son of the late Alexander and Leanna Gray McBride. He was a J.S. Wright High School graduate, a Vietnam veteran and a former employee of the city of Abbeville.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are two brothers, Alvin McBride of Jonesboro, Ga. and James A. McBride of New York; five sisters, Doris McBride of Abbeville, Miriam Denise Klugh of Greenwood, Varon Dunn of Englewood, N.J. and Amelia Gates and Gerald Colzard, both of Atlanta. Services will be announced by Richie Funeral Home of Abbeville.

Authorities make arrest in shooting TAYLORS (AP) Authorities late Friday charged a Campobello man with murder and said nothing indicated race was a factor in the killing of a black man married to a white woman. Daniel Vinson Staggs, 22, was arrested about 11 p.m. at a motel in Lake Wells, according to Lt. Millie Hashe of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. Staggs, who is white, was charged in Wednesday night's slaying of Danny Greer in Taylors.

Greer, 34, was shot to death as his wife and young sons watched. Two men in a pickup truck had trapped the family's van in a parking lot. Hashe said Staggs is believed to be the pickup driver and the gunman. She would not give more de- FBI opening NEW ZION (AP) The FBI opened a civil rights investigation into the case of a 9-year-old black boy who said he was tied to a tree, punched, kicked and almost strangled by a white playmate and the playmate's parents. Benjamin Mims, 62, and his 43-year-old wife, Betty, were arrested on state charges of seconddegree lynching, or mob violence, which does not require a racial motivation.

Jake Willing JOHNSTON Jacob "Jake" Willing, 93, of Johnston, died Jan. 18, 1996. Born in Aiken, he was a son of the late J.H. and Happy Berry Willing. He was a retired farmer and member of Providence Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Bennie Willing of Johnston; a brother, Lenwood Willing of Aiken; three sisters, Mattie Wise of Edgefield, Nellie Rhoden of Greenwood and Martha Redd of Aiken; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. 'Teets' Bailes "Teets" Bailes, 74, of 613 Watford wife of Gordon L.

Bailes, died Jan. 19, 1996 at Self Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late J. Williams and Marguerite Greene Watson. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Lander College.

She was a charter member and past president of the Isaquena Study Club, a member and past president of the Ivy Garden Club and a member of the Greenwood Woman's Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she taught in the Sunday School for more than 32 years. She was a member and former secretary and historian of the Women of the Church, a former deacon and secretary of the Diaconate. She was a former member and secretary of the Board of Directors of the Greenwood Y.M.C.A., where she also as chairman of senior high youth services and served as president of the Parent- Youth Council. She was a member of the Self Memorial Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary, where she formerly served as president and member of the Board of Directors of the Auxiliary.

She had formerly served as Den Mother of the Cub Scouts and was a Brownie Scout leader. Surviving, in addition to her husband of the home, are two sons, Dr. G.L. Bailes Jr. of Johnson City, Tenn.

and John W. Bailes of Columbia; a daughter, Dr. Marguerite B. Muzikowski of Houston, Texas; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m.

Grace Masters Ford, 89, of 601 N. Walnut Seneca, widow of Melrose Barksdale Ford, died Jan. 18, 1996 at the Mariner Health Care of Seneca. Born in Calhoun Falls, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Willie Hilburn Masters. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years.

She was a member of the Ada Morgan Sunday School Class and a member of The Golden Ages of Seneca Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, M.B. Ford of Hodges and Neil Ford of West Union; three daughters, Sara Cantrell, Gerry Boggs and Carol McCall, all of Seneca; two brothers, Jacob and Pete Masters, of Greer; three sisters, Emma Lou West of Nashville, and Mae Scott and Margaret James, both of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev.

Wayne Lovett, the Rev. Willie Honea and the Rev. Von Reynolds officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of Seneca was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, Community Mission, 4010 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672. ASHEVILLE, N.C. Harriet Wiggins, 90, of Givens Estates, Asheville, died Jan. 19, 1996.

A daughter of the Rev. L.E. Wiggins and Leila Black Wiggins, she spent her childhood years in Bamberg, S.C. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Randolph Macon College, Lynchburg, Va. and received her Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina.

She taught high school Latin in Swansea, S.C., Gaffney, S.C., Thomasville, Ga. and Lee Edwards High School, Asheville. She retired from Asheville High School in 1970. She was a summer resident of Lake Junaluska, N.C. She was a member of Central Unitedl Methodist Church, where she was active in the women's work and taught Sunday School for several years.

Surviving are two brothers, Wiggins Jr. of Givens Estates and Dr. C.E. Wiggins of Greenwood, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Thad (Elizabeth) McDonald of Hickory, N.C.

and Mrs. Lydia Maclaughlin of Daphne, and ten nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at he Chapel of Central Methodist Church. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m.

David Hart HONEA PATH David Hart, 78, of 205 Vaughn Road, husband of Elsie Vaughn Hart, died Jan. 19, 1996 at Anderson Area Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Eugene and Verena Kelley Hart. He was retired from Peerless Mill and was also a retired farmer. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are a son, Alfred Hart of Honea Path; three daughters, Annie Taylor, Louise Thomas and Cathy Foskey, all of Honea Path; five brothers, Louie Hart of Honca Path, Millard Hart of Anderson, James Hart of Belton, W.C. Hart of Anderson and Franklin Hart of Marion; three sisters, Catherine Pearson, Ethel Mae McCoy and Sarah Pearson, all of Honea Path: nine grandchildren; and four -grandchildren. The family is at the residence. Steve W. Mann GREENWOOD Steve William Mann, 17, of 131 Seminole Drive, died Jan. 20, 1996 in Edgefield. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Clarence Stephen and Mary Lee Calvert Mann.

He was a senior at Greenwood High School. Surviving, in addition to his parents of the home, are grandparents, Martin and Mildred Benson Starnes of Mountville, Jessie J. and Grace Calvert of Laurens and Clarence Mann of Waterloo. Sams, 82, of 328 Greenbriar Drive, husband of Mary Gladys Sams, died Friday, January 19, 1996 at Self Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death his first wife of 53 years Ruth Ida Meredith Sams, and by a stepson, James Hugh Thompson in 1990. Born December 28. 1913 in Elizabethton, TN. he was a son of the late Jackson William and Sallie Hyder Sams and was a stepson of Hattie Hyder Sams. He was employed by Beaunit Mills, American Bemberg Division in Elizabethton for 24 years and by in Pensacola and Greenwood for 22 years.

Aaron and Ruth raised a family of five children at their rural home near Milligan College, TN and in the 1950's, he was elected to two terms as School Commissioner to the Carter County Board of Education and selected to serve as its chairman. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church Gap Creek, TN and attended Emerald Baptist Church. Greenwood, where he was active in the Sonshiners groun and had delivered Meals on Wheels for the Piedmont Agency on Aging. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home, are four sons, James William Sams and his wife. Annette and Michael Meredith Sams and his wife, Mary Ellen, both of Pensacola, Fl, Gerald Neal Sams and his wife.
