Lander finished the regular season 13-4-1 and hosts a district semifinal playoff game Thursday at 7 p.m. against either USC-Spartan-burg, Francis Marion or Limestone. Andrew Myers scored a first-half goal off an assist from Sheldon Braithwaite Saturday, and Braithwaite scored an unassisted goal in the second half to lead Coker, which improved to 7-6-1. Coker had a 16-9 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Chris Wynne had 10 saves for Lander while Leonard Brockmeyer had four for the Cobras. Senators Coach Van Taylor wasn't happy with the loss. "I think we came out and played flat today," Taylor said after the Saturday afternoon game. "It wasn't our best all-around performance. We certainly would have liked to finish on a good note and carry it into the playoffs.

"We really sat back and let them come at us," Taylor added. "We're a team that's up-tempo and we never really got out of the gate fast enough and we really didn't get into the match. Today we didn't play to our potential. We'll just have to put this one behind us." Lander won easily in its regular-season home finale Friday afternoon as Stephane Moyon and Marlon "Sport" Linder had three goals apiece and Louie Smothermon chipped in five assists. In the first half Moyon scored off an assist from Jeff Evans, Rodney Dender made it 2-0 from Smothermon, Ken Davis scored off an assist from Eric Magara, then Moyon and Linder scored off Smothermon assists to make it 5-0 at halftime.

Evans scored Lander's first goal of the second half off an assist from Moyon. Moyon scored off an assist from Chris Fabri, Smothermon tallied an unassisted goal, and Linder scored the game's last two goals off Smothermon assists. The Senators outshot Savannah 38-4 and had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Noel Husbands got his first start in goal for Lander and had two saves and the shutout in his first appearance of the season. Jeff Masilin had 15 saves for Savannah.

In the first round of the district playoffs Tuesday Presbyterian hosts Coker and USC-Spartanburg takes on the winner of Saturday's Francis Marion-Limestone game. The loser of that game did not make the playoffs. Erskine, seeded No. 1, hosts the Presbyterian-Coker winner Thursday in the other semifinal. If Lander and Erskine both win Thursday, they will meet at Erskine Saturday for the district title.

Seeded first through sixth are Erskine, Lander, USC-Spartanburg, Presbyterian, Coker, and the Limestone-Francis Marion winner. 14s, "iissiis sa Netre Dasat, Itsui t-K Bit IMS, Watters 144, stouts 141, PASeWG-rnsssrsjt, Vaa Fell H4S4-17S, Stark RBCKVWG PW stay at, tykes tea, Haass as t-tt. 141. Colorado struggled on offense early, gaining 35 yards on its first three possessions.

But then the Buffaloes got going, with scoring drives of 55 and 53 yards in the second quarter plus a 48-yard drive that ended at Oklahoma's 32 with a fumble. Graves' three rushing touchdowns gave him 18 on the year and broke the single-season school record of 17 set in 1969 by Bobby Jordan. He also set a Wofford mark with his seventh game of over 100 yards rushing. Graves this season has now garnered 1,153 yards and is 40 yards from the single-season rushing record of 1,193 by Ricky Satterfield in 1973. The Terriers improved to 4-5 on the year, while the Wildcats fell to 2-6.

Wofford gained 528 yards rushing and 587 yards of total offense. The rushing total for the Terriers is the second-best output in school history, trailing only the 579 yards gained two weeks ago in a 49-10 victory over Newberry. Graves' 50-yard run with 3:56 gone in the first quarter gave the Terriers a 7-0 lead. He added a 13-yard scoring run five minutes later to extend the margain to 14-0. Keith Green added 90 yards on four carries, including a 53-yard touchdown run which gave the Terriers a 31-0 lead 3:10 into the second quarter.

Erskine, which lost to Clemson Wednesday, fell to 17-3. Charleston, piloted by former Erskine coach Ralph Lundy, improved to 7-9. Former Cambridge Academy star Luiz Vieira gave the visiting Cougars a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick 39:59 into the game. Rob Jobson tied it at the 43-minute mark off an assist from Rob Molony. Jobson nailed the shot from 20 yards out.

Alvin Thomas broke the tie with three unanswered goals. He scored off an Ethan Baldwin assist at the 72:32 mark on a 3-1 break, scored at the 78:43 mark off a Vieira assist, and Thomas scored again at 87:50 from Colin Osburn. Erskine played without freshman forward David Murdock, out with a knee injury, and Molony left the match after the go-ahead goal because of a leg injury.

Erskine will host an NAIA District 6 playoff semifinal game Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's first round game between Presbyterian and Coker. SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) This time, No. 1-ranked Notre Dame acted like perfect gentlemen before the game. After the kickoff, however, the Fighting Irish turned nasty and handed seventh-ranked Pitt its worst setback since a 56-7 loss to Notre Dame in 1971.

They stripped the Panthers of their entire game and overwhelmed them 45-7 with a stifling defense and a relentless offense that included only one completed pass. "Notre Dame just whipped us in every area," Pitt coach Mike Gottfried said. "We had a nice first drive, but then we self-destructed." The Panthers, who came in averaging 31 points and 428 yards a game, were held to 302 yards in total offense, with 68 yards coming after the opening kickoff. Pittsburgh took a 7-0 lead on an 8-yard pass from Alex Van Pelt to fullback Ronald Redmon. But Notre Dame (8-0) owned the rest of the game, scoring twice on Pitt turnovers and stretching college football's longest current winning streak to 20 games, one short of the school record.

The Irish are almost certain to break that record since Navy and Southern Methodist are the next two opponents. "I never dreamt this would happen in my wildest dreams," said Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, whose team rushed for 310 yards on 57 attempts, led by Raghib "Rocket" Ismail (8-for-74), Tony Rice (12-69) and Ricky Watters (7-54). Free safety Pat Terrell returned an interception 54 yards for a first-half touchdown, one of three interceptions suffered by Pitt freshman Alex Van Pelt, who completed 16 of 33 passes for 170 yards. Pitt also lost a fumble; Notre Dame did not commit a turnover. "It's funny because we were talking about that in practice this week," Terrell said.

"Once we got an interception, we were talking about cutting back against the traffic, and I did just that." Notre Dame scored a first-quarter safety when Van Pelt slipped and fell in the end zone as he dropped back to pass from the 3. The Irish took a 10-7 lead later in the period on the first of Rodney Culver's two 1-yard touchdown plunges and Rice's 2-point conversion run. Ismail added a touchdown on a 50-yard run, the longest of his career, as Notre Dame scored three touchdowns in the third quarter for a 38-7 lead. The Irish took a 24-7 lead early in the second half after Scott Kowalkowski stripped the ball from Van Pelt. Watters scored on a 2-yard fourth-down run.

Notre Dame's defense shut Pitt down after its opening drive, holding the Panthers to one first down on a penalty in their next five possessions and 73 yards the rest of the half. Tailback Curvin Richards, who accounted for 29 yards running and 21 receiving on Pitt's scoring drive, rushed for only 13 more in the first half. He had 47 for the game. The Irish defense kept the pressure on when Andre Jones sacked Van Pelt for a 9-yard loss on third down in the Panthers' third series. Ismail's 17-yard return of Brian Greenfield's 50-yard punt following the safety put the Irish on the Pitt 36.

UNC-Greensboro, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III, improved to 11-5-1 with the homecoming victory. Erskine fell to 9-7. UNC-Greensboro had a 24-6 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. UNC-Greensboro's Laura Musselman had two saves, while Kathryn Whitmire had 13 for Erskine.

Lee scored after Erskine sweeperback Karrie Miller was injured with about six minutes left. Prior to the injury, the Lady Fleet halted several UNC-Greensboro scoring opportunities. Arkansas tops Houston ORANGEBURG (AP) Delaware State scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to register a 21-13 come-from-behind Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win over South Carolina State Saturday. The Hornets clinched at least a tie for the MEAC title, which they shared with Florida and Bethune-Cookman last season. Delaware State, which defeated the Bulldogs for the sixth straight time, improved to 4-0 in the league and lifted its overall record to 6-2. The Bulldogs, who scored their 13 points in the first half, fell to 2-3 in MEAC play and 3-5 on the year.

Coach Willie Jeffries' team needs to win its final three games to avert a third straight losing campaign. The visiting Hornets took the lead with 8:34 to play when quarterback Darren Felton tossed a 14-yard scoring strike to Mike Riddick to culminate an 80-yard drive. Mark Stehman's point after put Delaware State up 14-13. The Hornets then drove 56 yards to stretch their lead to eight when Mike Murray got the touchdown from 4 yards out. Stehman converted to give the visitors a 21-3 edge.

S.C. State threatened to score when they recovered a muffed punt at mid-field with 1:42 to play. A 15-yard clipping penalty set the ball back to the 35, but the Bulldogs moved to a first and goal at the Delaware State six with 10 seconds to play. Then the Hornet's Elvis Hines intercepted an Otis Salley pass intended for Carl Davis at the Bulldog 2-yard-line as time expired. "A key point in the game was when we scored to go ahead 13-0 in the second quarter and got the 30 yards in penalties," Jeffries said afterward.

"We had to kick off from the 10. That changed the complexion of the game. We simply never recovered after that. "And, we had a lot of missed opportunities in the third quarter. Either they were that good defensively or we were pretty poor offensively.

"But I can't say enough about our defense," Jeffries added. "We played superbly.
